Inspiring Nature Walks in Boulder County
To sweat out in nature and to move the body with intention, in my experience, is an essential part of living a paleo lifestyle. What makes it paleo?
I find myself moved to stop while hiking and shove my nose deep into the crevices of a Ponderosa Pine to inhale the aroma of the sweet sap. It takes me somewhere beyond myself. My feet pound onto the dirt, and my sweat rolls to the earth and there is something raw and earthy about that. I can slow down for a moment and look up at the sky, rather than the treadmill numbers, and relax. To me, inspiring nature walks are part of the paleo lifestyle and means exercising with intention. The intention is to ground and uplift as well as to move the body.
I have been so inspired by the walks I’ve been taking in Boulder lately, especially in a few spots that aren’t thought of as incredibly popular hiking spots. Inspiring nature walks abound in Boulder Bounty; here are a few spots that really have been speaking to me lately.
Harper Lake in Louisville
Harper Lake is a lovely one-mile loop around a sweet lake. I love walking here and spending time with the Canadian geese while viewing the stunning Flatirons and breathing the fresh, open air. This walk is lovely at sunset and connects to the nearby Davidson Mesa trails which are also extensive and easily accessible from the Harper Lake trail.
Lion’s Lair In West Boulder near Mount Sanitas
Roots Rated Info about Lion’s Lair Trail
Lion’s Lair trail is thankfully still a bit of a secret. It’s on the way up to Sunshine Canyon and is delightfully quiet with its soft dirt paths and numerous switchbacks. The Abert’s squirrels with their adorable grey ear tufts race back and forth on the forest floor and find lovely rocks on which to perch. Enjoy a great workout or take your time and absorb nature. The trees smell glorious, so get your face right in there and breathe in their deliciousness.
This is an area that’s been hit hard by the deadly Pine beetle and while the trees are still lovely, they won’t be here much longer. Do yourself a favor and click the link for directions to this beautiful trail.
