Self-Care During the Holidays & the Winter Solstice

Sending love this holiday season to all of you.

I hope these thoughts and tips can support you as you walk through the next weeks.

1. Do what you can to not overcommit

Even when you think you have space, during that one hour break in your day, just experiment with leaving the space for mystery. Take a walk and take a breath. See what happens.

Sitting with ourselves during this quiet solstice time can be so powerful.

Do what you can to not overfill the time with tasks and extra work when possible.

2. Dig into the Darkness

Solstice time is a time of deep going inward... journaling and taking advantage of the quietness.

If you have a bathtub, take long baths and tuck in early. Solstice time can bring up a lot for folks.

Be with it, and allow the sacred spaces to emerge. Care for yourselves deeply on all levels possible.

3. Bake!

I’ve been loving Sweet Laurel, Recipes for Whole Food Grain Free Desserts!

We’ve been playing in the kitchen with their baked goods and having a ball. No pressure, just healthy cakes, cookies, and smiles. Check it out!

Healthy nourishing ingredients and delicious results.

I also have been loving ordering this nourishing bread from Simple Kneads for the occasional piece of toast from the freezer. These folks, out of North Carolina use hearty gluten-free clean organic ingredients and for me, my body seems to agree with the occasional piece!

4. Make Broth!

Bone broth and vegetable broth are so warming and healthy to soothe you from deep within.

I had a breakfast this morning of sliced carrots, kale, and minced ginger simmered in turkey bone broth with a poached duck egg, and I couldn't have been happier.

5. Stay Warm, and keep the energy flowing!

Take baths, get into the sauna, exercise, and move your energy!

When we warm the body, such as in a sauna or even in a hot bath, our human growth hormone is elevated, and this helps us to recover after exercise.

This is so helpful in the colder season, as some of us are more prone to injury. Plus, it just feels good!

Exercise moves stuck emotional energies and is good for us for so many reasons. Keep the bodies moving!
